Human Rights and Democracy in Secondary Schools: Teaching Materials and Survey

The publication is intended for teachers of civics and related subjects at secondary schools. It contains sample model lessons that can be used during teaching to introduce students to the topics of democracy and human rights. This represents an innovative teaching approach, where the student is not just a recipient of information but actively participates in the lesson. Each lecture is based on interactive activities, which in practice means that a large part of the lesson consists of discussions and exercises with the students.

The publication also includes a survey on high school students’ perceptions of democracy and human rights, as well as a survey of their knowledge in these areas. Among other findings, the research showed that most students do not have a clear opinion on liberal democracy. Another interesting finding was that most men tend to agree with the idea of the man as the head of the household, whereas most women tend to disagree.
